Mountable Shaft Collars
SSJ has released a new range of mountable collars with flats and tapped or tapped holes on the outer diameter to facilitate easy mounting of collars to each other or adjacent components. The clamp-on design offers the advantages of no shaft damage, infinite adjustability, and high clamping force.
SSJ mountable collars can be used in a variety of applications. In vertical shaft applications, designers can mount or stack collars on top of each other. Additional hardware can be removed, allowing the collars to be welded together or to adjacent components such as hinges. Mountable rings only have holes in the outer diameter for mounting sensor holders or similar components.
Mountable rings are available for guiding, spacing, stopping, mounting, and component alignment. They have the same support as standard collars. Designers benefit from the tightly controlled face-to-hole perpendicularity of SSJ collars (TIR ≤ 0.002 inches or 0.05 mm), which is critical when used as load-bearing surfaces or for component alignment. SSJ recognizes this face with one or two circular grooves in the collar to aid installation.
Clamping rings distribute compression evenly around the shaft for a tight fit and significantly increase clamping force compared to set screw rings. This design is especially useful for designs with high shock loads or frequent repositioning of components. Two-piece collars provide enhanced retention and in-place repairability and are matched throughout manufacturing to ensure proper fit and alignment. The SSJ name and hole size are printed on each collar for easy identification.
SSJ manufactures mountable collars from high-strength 2024 aluminum, 1215 lead-free steel, and 303 stainless steel with bores ranging from 3/8 to 2 inches. And 10 to 40 mm. This range of sizes and materials allows designers to match collars to application needs. The fastening hardware used by SSJ is tested to exceed industry standards for maximum torque capacity and holding force.
